A portion of Chain Bridge Road remained closed during the rush hour this morning as crews continued working on a 12-inch water main that flooded the road late yesterday afternoon.

About 5 p.m. yesterday, Chain Bridge Road was closed between North Glebe Road and the Fairfax County line after the ruptured main sent water gushing throughout the area, creating a chaotic trip home for many.

The Chain Bridge itself was open, but drivers crossing into Virginia had to continue south on North Glebe, officials said. Cars on North Glebe headed toward the District were detoured at Military Road.
