Six people were shot last night near a section of the District that police have described as volatile.
Three were found wounded in the 1700 block of Lincoln Road NE, where all six were apparently attacked, police said. A fourth was found about a block away on North Capitol Street near Randolph Place. Two others drove themselves to a hospital, police said.
Most were apparently hit in the arms or legs. No motive was known. At least two dozen shots were fired, police said.
In April, two people were killed in the same area on successive days. One was shot in a car at North Capitol and R streets NE. The second was shot the next day in the 2000 block of Lincoln Road.
Problems in that area have centered on a section around Lincoln Road, Todd Place and T Street, police have said. Last year, three homicides in that area, which is a little more than 1 1/2 miles north of the Capitol, were tied by police to an apparent dispute over drug territory.
