Among the top 10 names for baby boys, four are biblical. For girls, variations on biblical names were also popular, with Isabella (the Spanish version of Elizabeth, John the Baptist’s mother) Ava (a variation on Eve) and Abigail (an Old Testament character) making the top 10.

The appointment of Michael Wear, an assistant in the small White House office that works with faith-based social service groups, ends consternation by some religious progressives that the campaign slot had not been filled. Since 2008 some religious progressives, including a handful that worked for the Obama campaign, have felt faith concerns and language and image haven’t been high enough priorities for the president’s inner circle.

In an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts, the president painted his endorsement of same-sex marriage as an outgrowth of his Christian beliefs:

I saw it while sitting April 29 in the Nationals Stadium press box with Joel Osteen’s social media team. Without much heavy lifting, the reigning Christian king of hope attracted close to 41,000 people to Washington. While the filled stadium was impressive enough, the Texas mega-ministry’s staff says more than twice that number came to a live chat room from 145 different countries during the event. That’s enormous, and typical of Osteen, who experts say engages more people on social media than almost any other faith figure.

The lightning rod pastor has been largely out of the public eye in recent years, but on Tuesday will be addressing a conference in DC about how to reach young Christians who have drifted from the institutional church.

America’s sunniest pastor has been rained out.

Event organizers announced Saturday that Joel Osteen’s Night of Hope at Nationals Park, originally scheduled for April 28 at 7 p.m., is rescheduled due to inclement weather and will take place instead on Sunday, April 29 at 4 p.m. Doors will open Sunday at 2:30 pm.
