A Maryland graduate, Dull will retain a business relationship with his alma mater following his July 6 departure, advising the athletics department on communications issues and media-relations strategy. According to a release issued by the university Friday, he’ll also provide editorial content and consult on the logistics of many of the Terrapins’ special events as part of his new endeavor.

The game will be played Dec. 2 at Verizon Center.

But at 22, with three seasons of college experience and a degree from Albany, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard believes he can provide some of the consistency and seasoning Maryland’s young team will need in Coach Mark Turgeon’s second season.

Terrapins Coach Randy Edsall will face his former team, Connecticut, on Sept. 15 at 12:30. The game will be picked up regionally by the ACC Network and also televised online at ESPN3.com.

Pankey is the third Maryland player to depart the team in recent weeks. Mychal Parker announced his intention to transfer in April, and then he and guard Terrell Stoglin were suspended for the upcoming season late last month for violating the university’s student-athlete code of conduct. Stoglin then announced his intention to play professionally.

The Wildcats finished 19-14 last season and advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament, where they lost to Washington. Northwestern, which has made four straight NITs but has never advanced to the NCAA tournament, loses senior John Shurna, the Big Ten’s leading scorer in 2011-12 and the 27th player in Big Ten history with at least 2,000 points. However, swingman Drew Crawford, the team’s second-leading scorer at 16.1 points per game and second-leading rebounder at 4.7, will be back

Over an 18-game conference schedule, each ACC basketball team will have just one primary opponent that it will play twice each season. For the Terrapins, that team will be Pittsburgh. Maryland will play the other 12 ACC teams four times over each three-season span, with a home-and-home one season, a home game one season and a road game one season.

Terrell Stoglin and Mychal Parker have been suspended from the men’s basketball team for one year due to a violation of the University of Maryland Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, athletics department officials announced Monday.

Saturday’s Capital Classic became something of a showcase for Maryland’s recruits, with Shaq Cleare, Seth Allen, Damonte Dodd, Charles Mitchell and Sam Cassell Jr. (who re-affirmed his commitment to Maryland at the game) combining to score 49 points for the U.S. All-Stars in a 105-93 victory over the Capital All-Stars. Jake Layman, another Maryland recruit, was supposed to compete but was laid low after having his tonsils removed.

The figures were compiled from employment contracts for assistant coaches Dalonte Hill, Bino Ranson and Scott Spinelli and director of basketball operations Dustin Clark that were obtained by The Washington Post Friday under a Freedom of Information request.

After slogging through a short-handed, injury-plagued inaugural season, Coach Mark Turgeon has devoted his off-season to re-stocking Maryland’s basketball roster.

On Monday, Michigan’s 6-9 sophomore Evan Smotrycz emerged as the latest dividend of that effort, confirming his decision to transfer to Maryland, where he’s expected to add a sorely needed offensive spark to the Terps’ frontcourt.

Mitchell had informed the Terps he intended to come to Maryland during last month’s ACC tournament, and Turgeon couldn’t hide his enthusiasm although he was precluding from speaking publicly about it then.
