Small streams in Manassas, Manassas Park and throughout Prince William County are at risk, reports the weather service.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital lost power periodically over the weekend and for most of Monday due to equipment failures, hospital and power company officials said, although the hospital used generators to handle acute and emergency care.

The George Washington University’s graduation on the Mall was peaceful Sunday morning, with a modest protest against a billionaire honorary degree recipient barely impacting the ceremony.

Not a cloud was in the sky nor a protester could be heard as approximately 7,000 students received their degrees. As 25,000 people gathered for the event, hundreds of people protesting Mexican telecommunications giant Carlos Slim stood nearby on the grounds of the Washington Monument but did little to disrupt his speech.

A man was shot and critically wounded by a D.C. police officer in Southeast Washington late Monday night, authorities said.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the man was apparently shot during an exchange of gunfire with an officer looking for a suspect in a shooting in the same neighborhood earlier Monday night.

“He is still in the hospital,” his manager Tom Goldfogle said at a Harlem Renaissance festival in Prince George’s County. .

According to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), the break happened early Wednesday in a relatively unpopulated industrial park in the 5600 block of Columbia Pike Road in Hyattsville.

The derailment occurred around 7:15 p.m., after the peak of the evening rush period, but at a time when the system is still heavily used.

The young adult Asian small-clawed otters, a male and a female, died late Thursday. They were part of a family of 13, seven of whom had patches of their fur dyed earlier in the day for identification purposes, a statement from the zoo said.

Barbara C. Whitener, 27, of Olney, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck north on Route 15 just before 8 a.m., when she crossed the center line about one mile south of Harmony Church Road, police said. Her pickup struck a southbound tractor-trailer at the driver’s side fuel tank. Whitener, who died at the scene, was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The teenager, who was walking next to the tracks near Oakmont Avenue, was wearing earbuds and listening to music when he was struck around 8:30 a.m., authorities said.
