Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) reported receiving 86 books last year on a recently filed financial disclosure form that included an 11-page list of gifts.

The governor, decked out in a black T-shirt and black cargo pants, seemed more relaxed on stage than any time in recent memory. But the reemergence of his Celtic rock band was not altogether free of reminders of his elected office.

Gingrich, a former candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, shared that insight Sunday during a joint appearance with O’Malley, the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

At one point during an interview last week, when asked if he enjoyed the debate, O’Malley shared an anecdote about his late father, who practiced law in Montgomery County.

NBC is billing the conversation as one between “two influential members of their parties about what’s fair game when it comes to campaign attacks and where the race between President Obama and [Mitt] Romney stands now.”

School officials announced on Monday that their workers would receive the first raise in three years. The raises — which cost about $25 million, according to the officials — are part of a $4.6 billion operating budget that the Montgomery County Council is expected to approve on Thursday.

The gathering in Cambridge, Md., the latest in a series of similar DGA events, is billed as a conference on energy issues, a favorite topic for O’Malley (D). He is one of a half-dozen governors expected at the event at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina.

Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, which is leading efforts to repeal Maryland’s new same-sex marriage law, said Monday that he thinks the NAACP’s stand will actually inspire more people to get involved on his group’s side of the issue.

Besides addressing Democrats in New Hampshire — home of the nation’s first presidential primaries — O’Malley is also scheduled to speak to Democrats in Maine, an aide confirmed.

On Thursday, the Montgomery County legislators will announce the results of weeks-long deliberations over the county’s $4.6 billion operating budget and $4.3 billion six-year capital spending plan.

O’Malley has been booked as the “special guest” at the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention on June 2 in Manchester.

The governor had floated the idea before but sounded far more definitive during a gathering with reporters Wednesday afternoon.
