Metro train doors open while in motion

Yesterday, after further reflection on Jay-Z's support for gay marriage, I sat down to write about it. I'd love to know what you all think as well.

When you ride the Metro to school for years,
there are certain things about the system you learn. The first one is: The bathrooms are ALWAYS available for use, no matter what the station manager tells you. The second is: Never, ever, ever, ever lean on the doors, because those badboys just might open. I saw it plenty of times as a kid. And it happened again yesterday on the Red Line, The Post's Dana Hedgpeth reports. No injuries were reported, but I do wonder if the chimes rang first

When D.C. Caribbean Carnival Inc. announced last week that it was moving its annual parade to Baltimore, it seemed sketchy — like a blindside hit to many of the festival’s ardent supporters. But what hopefully is a temporary relocation could end up being the most productive outcome for the event going forward.

On this episode of “Basketball Wives,” the women travel to Tahiti. I’m sorry, Tahiti. You don’t deserve this.

Back in Miami, Royce’s tantrum in front of her dad continues. “Sometimes I just want a hug,” she says in between sobs. “You just don’t get it.” Her dad finally relents and hugs her. “Okay,” he says. I think he just wanted her to shut up.

When winter turns to spring, our city is filled with celebrations of our diversity and heritage. Recent holidays including Easter, Passover, St. Patrick’s Day and the just celebrated Cinco de Mayo remind us how our city is enriched by our differences. In the District of Columbia, our mayor talks about uniting all communities in “One City.” Diversity is becoming an ever more important issue for our nation — even if some Americans who don’t live in cities like ours don’t know it yet.

It’s not unusual for women to covet shoes or blister their toes wearing them. But my Chucks weren’t beautiful or expensive. They were cool.

There’s a message in every mess, nationally prominent pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes told thousands of worshippers gathered for a revival Friday in Landover.

The senior pastor of the 30,000-plus member The Potter’s House in Dallas issued a clarion call for Christians to focus on their purpose and to be strategic as they maximize their potential in 2012. Jakes preached the final night of a three-night revival sponsored by First Baptist Church of Glenarden, in Upper Marlboro, and Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church in the District.

November is National Adoption Month , time to celebrate the 120,000 children in foster care waiting to enrich a family through their adoption and to congratulate families that already know the wonder of taking a child into their home. It’s also the time of year that reminds me of what-might have been.

Correction: The article previously incorrected referred to Pretha Mitchell’s age as 52 when she donated her kidney. She was 51.

African Americans constitute 32 percent of patients in the United States receiving dialysis for kidney failure, although they are only 11 percent of the population. They are 3 1/2 times more likely to have kidney disease than whites.

Poverty has deep roots in America. There is no simple way to eradicate it. Some look at our nation’s have-nots and say, “Oh, they’re poor and uneducated. Let’s give them money so they’ll have an equal chance at success.” But without providing those who struggle economically with adequate preparation, education, or other supports that approximate the circumstances of those standing on firmer financial terrain, poverty persists.

Anacostia activists oppose proposed site of homeless women’s shelter

The temperatures were subfreezing, but Greta Fuller was on fire at a pre-dawn rally opposing a women’s homeless shelter that’s set to open in historic Anacostia.

“We need businesses in Anacostia, not beds!” Fuller, an advisory neighborhood commissioner, shouted as a few dozen residents looked on. “We want to know: Why here, in our business corridor? We are not against women’s shelters. We are against the oversaturation of these services in a condensed area.”

I was at the Henry J. Daley building with my four-month-old son to contest a traffic ticket. It’s a busy building at 301 C St. NW that also is home to the Metropolitan Police.

While we sat in the brightly lit waiting room, my son started to get whiny and squirmy.
